World Thai Martial Arts and Wai Khru Muay Thai Ceremony Festival kicks off in Ayutthaya in March 2013

January 13 2013 - The professional Muay Thai sports competition has gained worldwide recognition, in view of this Thailand will host its 9th Wai Khru Muay Thai ceremony in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park in Ayutthaya province on March 17. 

The festival event will include demonstrations of Thai arts, handicrafts and cultural shows including traditional Thai Tattoo, making Aranyik swords, exhibition of ancient weapons and Thai martial art performances.
 
Thai martial arts boxers from around the world and Thailand will flock to Ayutthaya to demonstrate their respect to their teachers and mentors and thank them for their diligent effort and patience during training in the Wai Khru Ceremony. 
 
The ceremony will also include paying respect to the late Thai kings and masters of Muay Thai.  Muay Thai boxers will also attend rituals to honor Nai Khanom Tom a famous muay Thai boxer.
 
History has it that Nai Khanom Tom; a warrior from Ayutthaya defeated ten consecutive Burmese army fighters because of his excellent fighting skills and thus freed himself from his Burmese captors.
 
This year the festival will also include a youth contest in the Wai Khru Muay Thai or respect paying ceremony.  Thai youth in the past had to learn self-defense, a tradition that has been passed down through the ages in all social classes; Kings to villagers had to learn to protect their homeland and themselves. 
 
In the afternoon a ceremony held to honor Thai ancestral kings and brave soldiers who protected Thailand will take place followed by Thai elephants performing.

The program - 
 
15.00 - 17.00: Enjoy a professional Muay Thai competition.  
 
17:00 - 18:30: Demonstration of Thai arts and handicrafts including Thai tattoos, Aranyik swords and exhibition of ancient weapons.
 
18:30 - 20.00: Ceremony held to pay respect to masters of Muay Thai and late Thai Kings, followed by a presentation on the importance of Muay Thai boxing.
 
20:00 - 21:00: Welcome reception for guests.
