JULY'S FEATURED HOT SPOT...KOH KOOD!

Far quieter and less developed than neighboring Koh Chang, Koh Kood is a pristine island ideal for a relaxing beach vacation. Full of native forest, coconut and rubber plantations, the island is covered with untouched beaches complete with crystal clear water.

Despite its natural resources, Koh Kood is slowly transitioning from a plantation and fishing economy to a tourism-oriented one. New developments to accommodations on Koh Kood continue to attract tourists of both the middle and upper classes.

For now, relaxing is the predominate activity on the island. Snorkeling and exploring are options for the more adventurous, with boat trips available to nearby islands for sightseeing, snorkeling and scuba diving. For seasoned fishermen, the small fishing village at Ao Salat on the Northeast of the island should not go unvisited.

Try accommodation options like the Soneva Kiri, the original barefoot luxury brand living by the philosophy of the "SLOW LIFE" (Sustainable-Local-Organic-Wellness  Learning-Inspiring-Fun-Experiences), or Away Koh Kood.

For more information on Koh Kood, visit www.tourismthailand.org/Where-to-Go/Koh-Kood. For more information on Soneva Kiri, or for reservations, visit www.soneva.com, and for more information on Away Koh Kood, or for reservations, visit http://awayresorts.com/.

THE TOURISM AUTHORITY OF THAILAND NAMED TITLE SPONSOR OF 2013 RUMBLE ON THE RIVER AT PIER 84

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will serve as the title sponsor of the 2013 Rumble on the River at Pier 84 in New York City on Thursday, August 1. The annual event will feature a full afternoon of Thai cuisine and traditional Thai cultural performances. The evening will culminate with Muay Thai kickboxing beginning at 7:00 p.m. featuring local amateur Muay Thai boxers. The famed USS Intrepid will act as the backdrop to the event.

The event is free and open to the public, with special ticketed VIP ringside seating available for purchase. The TAT exhibition, which officially begins at 2:00 p.m., will continue throughout the Rumble on the River event and will enable guests to experience Thailand without leaving New York City. Representatives from TAT will be on-hand to answer questions and promote the destination. In addition to Thai food and cultural performances, the "My Thailand, My Story" exhibition will be on display at the event. The exhibition displays photos from a contest in which TAT partnered with National Geographic Travel Group and sent seven finalists on a weeklong trip through Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket, documenting the experience with their camera along the way.

Muay Thai is an ancient Thai fighting style that utilizes all body parts. It is sometimes referred to as "The Art of Eight Limbs" because of the sport's incorporation of eight points of contact, as opposed to traditional boxing or kickboxing.

The 2013 Rumble on the River is part of the summer programming schedule presented by the Hudson River Park Trust, a partnership between New York State and City that is charged with the design, construction and operation of the five-mile Hudson River Park. The event is organized in conjunction with Church Street Boxing Gym.
