Attraction Details :

Wat Ratchapradit Sathit Mahasimaram Ratcha Wora Maha Viharn or commonly known as Wat Ratchapradit is located at 2 Saranrom Rd., Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok. It is a rather small temple in Bangkok with the total area of approximiately 2 rai.

Wat Ratchapradit is a royal temple for King Rama IV who ordered the construction of this temple to be the first temple of Dhammayutika sect for the monks of Dhammayutika. It is also one of three major temples, which have only Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Mahathat at that time, as required by an old tradition to be situated within the capital. The King personally donated a royal coffee plantation in the reign of King Rama III and had a small temple built there, naming it Wat Ratchapradit Sathitthammayutikaram which was later changed into Wat Ratchapradit Sathit Mahasimaram.

A place of interest in this temple is Phra Wihan Lhuang or the royal image hall which houses mural paintings about The Royal Ceremonies over 12 months and legend of the solar eclipse phenomenon. The principal Buddha image, which its pedestal contains the ashes of  King Rama IV, is also seated in the hall.

A niche made of carved marble is at the rear of the Wiharn. Inside, two royal proclamations were inscribed. The first is an announcement of the temple being dedicated to the use of the monks of the Dhammayuttika school. The second is an announcement about the ceremony of a monastic boundary. The two inscriptions are very important to The Dhammayuttika Nikaya in Thailand.
