Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram is a royal temple located on Fueng Nakorn Rd., Phra Nakorn, Bangkok. The temple was built by King Rama V in1869 as his own temple of his reign.

Wat Ratchabophit features the combination of Thai architecture and Western-style interior. The King also gave its name Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram meaning a temple built by the King (Ratchabophit) with 8 stone pillars on 8 directions (Sathit Maha Simaram).

Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram is considered as the last royal temple the King built according to the royal tradition that each monarch must have his own temple of his reign.

The principal Buddha Image is represented on an Italian marble pedestal. It was casted from the reign of Rama IV until the early of Rama V with the gold Rama IV had used when he was young.

King Rama IV first suggested that the image be placed in Phra Pathommachedi. Unfortunately, he passed away so King Rama V had it installed as the principal Buddha image in the Phra Ubosot of Wat Ratchabophit on 12th September 1872.

Furthermore, Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram is also home to the Royal Cemetery located on the west end of the temple grounds. King Rama V wanted it to be the place where the ashes of the descendants and it was dedicated to the Queen, his wives, mother, sons, and daughters. The memorials are so varied in architecture from Thai Khmer Viharn, Chedis, and Prangs to Khmer to Gothic. They are located in a garden with many plants and flowers. The important memorials are four golden Chedis lined up from Norh to South.
